The Museum is located in the actual historical jail building and offers a  captivating and immersive experience. Like many other city landmarks, the jail was commissioned by Henry Flagler, an oil magnate and industrialist who moved to St. Augustine from New York.

Henry Flagler commissioned a prominent company known for constructing the unescapable Alcatraz to build a then-new St. Augustine jailhouse. Mindful of not creating an intimidating presence that could unsettle the public or dissuade potential investors, especially his affluent acquaintances, Flagler opted for a clever disguise. The Jail was designed to look like a fine hotel. Thus, it is painted pink and even has a front porch! The exterior is ingeniously crafted to conceal its true grim purpose.

Constructed in 1891, the sturdy brick building served as a jail until 1953 and now stands as a testament to the town's rich history. As visitors step inside, they are transported back in time, exploring the eerie cells, gallows, and sheriff's living quarters.
